Lishika Speaks-

India is a land of festivals since we have people from different religions. The diversity amongst the people is the key aspect for a lot of celebrations in India. Regardless of religion or caste, people celebrate every festival, creating a strong bond of humanity. One among them is Sri Krishna Janmashtami, celebrating the birth of the Mighty & Mischievous Krishna. The child Krishna was loved for his mischievous pranks. He also performed many miracles and slew demons. Sri Krishna was extremely fond of butter. The sounds of his flute prompted the gopis to dance with him in the moonlight. His favourite among them was the beautiful Radha- a childhood friend. Later he married the princess Rukmini. He is also known as the eighth avatar of Lord Vishnu.

Sri Krishna Janmashtami celebration begins by people fasting throughout the day and breaks it with a special meal after sunset. Going to temples/ holy places, praying, dancing, and singing bhajans at midnight is a part of the celebrations. Usually, small children dress up like Lord Krishna on this particular day. People also enact incidents from Krishna’s childhood by placing an earthen pot high above the ground and after that forming a human pyramid and attempt to break it. This ritual is well known as Dahi Handi. The crowds at Dahi Handi, street performances and night celebrations in the temples are the most exciting activities during the festival.

On Sri Krishna Janmashtami, I was dressed up as Krishna and Radha. Guys, look out my video to see my transformation to Radhekrishna and you can also see how much happiness a festival or a celebration brings to our life and make the moment so lively and joyful.
